Champneys
In 1925, their company was founded on the ideas of Stanley Lief, a visionary naturopath. It was the first resort of its kind in the UK when it opened as a health farm known as the Nature Cure Resort.
After learning that he had an inoperable cardiac problem in 1890, young Stanley turned to osteopathy and dietary changes in search of relief. At 16, he had cured himself and went on to study naturopathy, eventually purchasing the estate from the Rothschilds and establishing what is now known as Champneys in Tring. Lief’s resort gained notoriety as a pioneer in the fields of holistic medicine and naturopathy. Patients traveled from all over to experience its immediate and long-lasting success. Modern medicine still reflects his belief in holism, the importance of eating well, and the harmful effects of stress.
Lief sold Ralph de Champneys‘s namesake estate, Champneys, in the 1950s, and the property changed hands several times before the Purdew family bought it in 2002. Henlow Grange, Springs Health Farm, and Forest Mere were all formerly owned by Champneys and were added to the brand in 1981, 1990, and 1995, respectively.
Dorothy and Stephen Purdew, mother and son, have grown the company into new heights. There have been extensive renovations, and now Champneys not only operates four resorts but also three city spas and a line of internationally acclaimed products. Their International College of Health and Beauty (founded in 1976) is not only one of the most prestigious beauty schools in the UK, but also deeply invested in the future of wellness.
Champneys has traditionally been a hub for Hollywood’s A-list, as well as politicians, Middle Eastern nobility, and other notable figures. Naomi Campbell, Kylie Minogue, Dames Helen Mirren, Judi Dench, and Naomie Harris, and two of Hollywood’s leading males, Daniel Craig and Brad Pitt, are just a few of their most renowned clients. Princess Diana, who recently passed away, also adored it.
Their ground-breaking ideas have inspired generations because they are based on the belief that health, beauty, and happiness are intertwined. As a company with deep roots in the community, they take pride in their heritage but are even more enthusiastic about their future. Even when fads come and go, they will always be dedicated to spreading wellness.
Champneys offers an innovative array of wellness services, including programs, concepts, and experts. The health ideas they’ve developed as a society have been groundbreaking. This has allowed them to become one of the most prestigious health and beauty resorts in the world, not just the UK. Their resorts feature state-of-the-art amenities because they have invested much in them (especially at Forest Mere, Henlow, and Tring) and because they have great ambitions for Champneys Springs. Their two hotels, Eastwell Manor and Mottram Hall, have just undergone a multi-million pound renovation and now feature luxurious Champneys spas.
Their 400-square-meter Marine and Wellness Spa, the first of its kind in the UK, is at the heart of their efforts to revitalize and restore Tring’s reputation as the world’s premier health resort. The ultimate detox rebalancing may be found at this groundbreaking center, which offers a variety of water-based individualized therapies in a sleek, ultra-modern purpose-built setting. It also has its very own Himalayan rock salt wall, which is five meters long. An ultra-relaxing thermal poolside suite with heated water beds, snugs, relaxation pods, a whirlpool, experience showers, a laconium, a sauna, a snow room, and more has recently been added at Forest Mere.
They also take pride in the fact that their variety of fitness programs and specialized getaways is unmatched by any other spa or hotel in the area. Offering up to 20 classes each day taught by some of the industry’s most in-demand trainers, they’re confident that they can meet the needs of any client. In the same way that they take a novel approach to exercise, they also use a diverse group of wellness experts, many of whom have won prestigious awards, to motivate and energize their clients.
Innovation is fundamental to who they are, allowing them to both respond to and set the standard for industry developments and customer service.
